Work has started on the Emily again today. This morning heavy machinery delivered a Site Office and started clearing a road for access to the area from Rhydycoed. They also started clearing and cutting the ground. See here for pictures taken from the site earlier today.

Major developments on the Emily Site. Contractors were on site today clearing the area in readiness for a Developer to build houses on the site. Although it has been common knowledge for a long time that this site was included in the Swansea Council Unitary Development Plan (UDP), it was a big shock when we witnessed the heavy machinery clearing the land this morning. As a respect to the community, it would have been a positive gesture by the Land Owner to make the Community aware of what was going to happen in advance of today, and what they have planned for the future.
To view the UDP for the Emily site Click here. This will take you to the website of Swansea Council. The Emily site is known as HC1(4) and in the detail of the UDP this is classed as land to be developed for Housing with at least 167 Houses to be built. There is only one constraint that has been placed on the site and that is "Improvements to public sewerage system may be required".
To view pictures of the contractors on site today see here.

The BCA has complained on behalf of
Birchgrove residents to Swansea Council about the Fly Tipping on the
Emily field, which is causing local residents great concern. We have
taken some pictures of the area showing the illegal dumping of waste. Click here to view the pictures.
Swansea Council have responded to our
complaints stating that they have passed on our concerns to their Fly
Tipping team for action.

The
BCA has been in touch with Keep Wales Tidy
to organise clearance of the rubbish dumped on this field and adjacent
lane. It
is hoped to see progress on this during the Spring but it is a huge task
which
is beyond volunteer litter pickers.

This area apparently is owned by
several different people. The council has the powers to clean up the
land and send the land owner the bill but as the land owner cannot be
contacted, the council will not clean the land as they have no one to
send a bill.

Another fire was started on the Emily
near houses today. The excellent Fire brigade attended and put out the
flames. If you know who started the fire, please contact the Police on

The Association has had consultation
with the Safer Swansea Partnership. There is an issue on ownership of
the Emily. We are pursuing this issue with a view to ensure the land
owners take responsibility for their areas to ensure they are clean and
tidy.
1st October 2008
The area has been cleared of rubbish,
but recently it is being used as a dumping ground again. The Association
is liasing with the Safer Swansea Partnership to try and address this
ongoing problem.
