19th April 2012

A very big thank you to all the local residents and local Cllr Ryland Doyle who attended the Litter pick on 15th April in Cwrt Emily Lane off Heol Dulais. Everyone was shocked by the amount and type of rubbish that was found in this beautiful part of Birchgrove. In addition to the general litter we found a Settee, Car Tyres, Bottles, Paddling Pool, TV's, an Aquarium, and we also discovered what look's like Asbestos sheets. Our Children play in this and we must not allow this to happen on our doorsteps. If Anyone see's Fly Tipping taking place, please contact Swansea Council Fly Tipping Team on 01792 636000. To see the heroes on the day spending their own time clearing the mess, please see our photo collection here.

More good news. We have obtained grants from Keep Wales Tidy which has enabled us as Volunteers to purchase new equipment for carrying out Litter Picks and Environmental activities. We now have litter pickers and handy hoops (which hold refuse bags). This is approximately £300 worth of cleanup / litter picking equipment obtained  through the grant. This follows the free community group insurance also from Keep Wales Tidy. This also follows the spades, shears, fork, rakes and other tools from another grant we were successful in obtaining.

Please remember when reading this that we are volunteers who are trying to make Birchgrove a Better place to live for everyone. Please Please help us any way you can!!

Great news. We have been successful in gaining £250 worth of B&Q vouchers to support biodiversity and protection of endangered native species on two sites in Birchgrove. This comes through the Keep Wales Tidy 'Wild Weekend' initiative. This is really pleasing as it consolidates the great work by volunteers recently and gives us new opportunities. Under the bid that was put in, we will be looking to establish in Parc yr-helig some bee, bird and dormouse boxes, as well as planting some native trees and native bluebells and daffodils.

We need Volunteers to help us. Any help that you can offer would be fantastic. Remember you are helping your Community. Please contact us. Thanks.
